From The Trenches

Editor’s note: We didn’t publish last week. We know. And no, we were not having a ToxicPopTwin lost weekend, even though we have beencelebrating our birthdays since TomTom & Devo and will continue to do so through this coming Sunday, thank you very much. It was internet troubles. We hate Verizon right now. We hate them with the white hot intensity of a thousand supernovas. And they will get theirs because youse did not get yours. Our humblest apologies to our last week’s HOT POPS who did not get their props: Nerd Poetry, All The People You Love and Vicious Vaudeville. We hope you forgive us. We’ll make it up to you. We promise. And now, back to our regularly scheduled newsletter…

Hey kids! Welcome to this week's episode of ourlifeisamoviethissummer.com, in which your invertebrate itcamefromnewyork TPTwin realizes she may be missing part of her backbone.

No we have not backslid into the ruinous embrace of American Spirit Yellow. In fact it's been six months since we last partook of that vice. And no, we have not betrayed any secrets, wrecked any homes, caused any bodily harm or otherwise knowingly broken any of the commandments we try to live our life by—except one—thou shalt not betray thine origins

"Hey that's their movie."
"I can roll with that."
"Right on."

Oh, there's nothing wrong with those sentences, youse say? Except they were all uttered from our mouth multiple times during the course of the day last week! Maybe it's because we were doing the hula-hoop rave-dance thang at the FigmentNYC festival and when it started raining, said to the green-eyed boy, "How cool is this, we get to be in the rain!" Then later, when we were talking to the blue-eyed boy, said, "Sure, I’ll call you after my food co-op orientation and after yoga class."

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO US??? We are slowly being transmogrified into the one thing, the only thing we have long held in derision even more than bad 80s conceptual art and disco—a fucking hippie. We are a New Yawker, dammit! We are supposed to be able to freeze your nuts with one withering glance from thirty paces. We are supposed to be aggro, not mell-o. And if we have any aura at all it should proclaim loud and clear, "Get the fuck out of our way!"

We can only blame the dastardly duo, the blue- and green-eyed BFboys from Minnie for this. They know who they are. We took them to ArtStar events, thinking it would be they who would be converted. But strangely, it is us who slowly, insidiously, is becoming altered through friendship, artistic collaboration and dancing; bonding over hummus, dark cherry chocolate and mullein. Like the slug to the beer-filled pie dish; the moth to the flame; the caterpillar who slowly spins itself into a chrysalis not knowing what is to become of them; we are subtly being drawn to a new way of thinking and new mode of speaking, swayed toward a different worldview that was not where we were at, at all.

When you get this in your mailbox Tuesday, it'll be a new month. Our birthday month—but more on that next week. This week, we want youse to remember that this is the summer that will transcend memory. And some of what you're going to be remembering in October is in the listings below. And as we take up our yoga mat and run to make our 5:30 Vinyasa class, the rest of youse…GET THE FUCK OUT AND PLAY!!!

As ourlifeisamoviethissummer.com continues…
